Orders for Taiwanese exports surged 71.4% year-on-year to a new record high of USD 103 billion in August 2026, following a 61.9% gain in the previous month. The latest figure surpassed $100 billion for the first time, as robust AI demand continued to fuel expansion for the world’s leading supplier of AI chips and technology. Strong growth was recorded in information and communication products (100.5% vs 89.5% in July), basic metals and articles (26.8% vs 24.3%), electronic products (83.9% vs 71.7%), and mineral products (91.6% vs 44.4%). Moreover, export orders for optical, photographic and cinematographic apparatus declined at a softer pace (-5% vs -10.6%). On the other hand, growth slowed for machinery (28.3% vs 31.3%) and electrical machinery products (14.7% vs 16.7%), while orders for transport equipment slipped (-0.1% vs 6.4%). Exports from South Korea surged 68.7% yoy to USD 98.25 billion in August 2026, surpassing market estimates of 62.6% and accelerating from an upwardly revised 63% jump in July. Exports rose for the 15th consecutive month, marking the third-highest monthly figure on record, after sales exceeded USD 100 billion for the first time in June.
