COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Clubs in North Baltimore and Fullerton, Calif., have been chosen as U.S. Olympic Committee training centers to help postgraduate swimmers train for the Olympics.
SwimMAC in Charlotte, N.C., was the first such club chosen in 2006.
USA Swimming says the USOC will provide financial and other support to transform the clubs into comprehensive, state-of-the-art training and support environments for elite teams of prospective Olympic swimmers.
Along with top coaches, the centers will provide athletes with access to performance training, travel required for training and competition, educational opportunities, internships and-or part-time jobs, physical therapy and medical support.
North Baltimore is run by Bob Bowman, who trains 14-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps and other elite swimmers.
Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team will be run by Sean Hutchison, who coached the U.S. women's team at the recent world championships in Rome. He is currently head coach of King Aquatic Club in Seattle. Jon Urbanchek, former Michigan coach, will join the Fullerton staff in May 2010.
