Say goodbye
I wake up early this morning, when he is still sleeping soundly like a baby next to me. We really did too many “sports” last night. I knew that I should control myself. But he was too hot to avoid. There must be something unhappy happened inevitably. I have been heard of the financial crisis of his family business. As a responsible person as he is, he will do his utmost to solve this problem, though he have been disengaged with his family for many years.
Oh, I find some slight movement of his eyelid. He is waking. I close my eyes immediately and pretend that I am still asleep.
I can feel that he is now watching me, and then kissing me, from the eyes to the lips. Then he gets up, and goes to the bathroom. I know the tiniest action of him, though he tries hard not to make any noise. I know it, not by ear, but by heart.
Nearly 8 years ago, when we were in college, his father asked him to engage himself to a pretty girl whose father was then an assemblyman. He refused and moved to my flat. Then his father declared that he was not a family member from then on, and cut off all his financial support. So did my family. At that time, he was just accepted by Business School, and me, Medical School. We two made a living just by his scholarship—Medical School never offers a scholarship. Time was really hard then, as well as happy.
Get back to business. To all people’s surprise, the girl I have mentioned whose father is now commercial minister, truly fell in love with him and is still single now. The government contract in her father’s hand can totally escape his family from crisis. Marrying the very girl, who loves him deeply, seems to be the only way to save the whole family from bankruptcy. There is no other choice for him, is there?
I have to get up now, because I want breakfast to be prepared when he finishes shower. Last breakfast?
I put on clothes quickly and open the curtain, finding that it is another sunny day. Ridiculous! Such a day should be windy and rainy, isn’t it?
What is more ridiculous is that he will leave. He did not leave when we had to live in a small flat with only one bedroom; He did not leave when we had to go 3 miles to school on foot just in order to save some petrol; He did not leave when we had to wear T-shirt on sale in shopping mall; He did not leave when we two had to share one fried egg for breakfast. All we had were each other then. But he did not leave. He did not even complaint for one word. On the contrary, he always encouraged me, and do all he could to make our life happy (though poor). We toughed the hardest student time up. And now, we both have good jobs, and earn so much money that we live in a huge house with a pool, own a SUV of Porsche and a sports car of Ferrari, buy clothes directly from Milan or Paris, and usually have 7 courses in dinner. And he will go! I win so much material things, but I will lose him. Is there any chance for him to stay? No, there is not. Because I know that responsibility always comes first with him, and he always comes first with me. So I will let him go and do all my best to support him.
